She spun around so fast she almost tripped over the curb.
“Yeah. 12 years, you?”
“16 years” he said with a laugh. “Just moving in?”
“Yeah. From Canada.”
“You look like you need some help. I’m Nicklas. Nice jag by the way!”
“Brooklyn” she said with a smile. “Thanks”
Nicklas took her duffle bag and they walked up the stairs to her apartment.
“Couldn’t we have taken the elevator?” he said almost out of breath.
“I just sat in a car for 7 hours. I needed the walk.” she said with a grin.
Nicklas gave a playful sigh.
When she opened the door to her small 2 bedroom apartment, Nicklas mouth almost hit the floor.
“Where’d you move from again?” he has in shock from all the boxes.
“Canada” she said with a laugh and smile.
“Are you sure you did not bring the whole country?”
“Yep. Pretty sure I left some there.” she said sarcastically. “Now I know you’re not from the states your accent tells all.”
“Nope, I’m from Sweden. I came over last year to play hockey.”
She knew that she knew him from somewhere...but where.
“I know you...I think.” she said wearily.
“I am sure you’ll figure it out” he said with a smile. “Now do you need some help with these boxes?
“Sure” she said trying not to blush
They spent the next 4 hours sorting through boxes. Luckily she had marked them before she boxed them up. Living room stuff, kitchen stuff, bathroom, blah blah blah. They talked about hockey and their families back home. Brooklyn couldn’t believe how sweet he was.
“Wow its almost midnight!” she said as they unpacked the last box.
“Time flies doesn’t it?” he asked shooting her a grin that made her blush. “I better get going. I have practice at 10 tomorrow. Coach will kill me if I can’t skate.”
With that he stood up, and helped Brooklyn to her feet. He smiled at her before he walked out the door. That smile! She knew him, but where. She locked her door and she could swear she floated to her bedroom.
She lay on her unmade bed staring at her ceiling. She couldn’t get him out of her head. Those blue eyes and his messy blonde hair. She felt herself smile. And that accent was enough by itself to make her melt. She held a picture of his smile in her head as she drifted to sleep.
Her eyes opened slowly the next morning with the morning sun shining directly in them.
“Man” she said sleepily. “I really need to get some blinds!”
She rolled around trying to find her glasses then her phone. 9:15. She lay back wondering if it was all a dream. An amazing dream if it was. After an hour of trying to fall back asleep she decided to clean up a little. Everything was already unpacked and in the right room, but she couldn't help but feel dirty with everything out of place. Around noon everything was away and her apartment looked amazing. Her stomach growling, she looked to the fridge.
“Oh my” she said laughing. “Forgot I just moved in.”
Just as the words left her mouth, a knock came at the door.
“What are you stalking me now” she said jokingly as she opened the door.
“Thought I’d bring you lunch, since I knew you didn’t have any food.” Nicklas says handing her a bag.
“What cha’ bring me?” she said opening the bag.
“Pizza. Is that okay?”
“Yep. Thanks.” She said smiling. She couldn’t believe he though to bring her lunch.
They sat at her kitchen table eating their cold pizza.
“Sorry I look like a bum” she said trying not to blush.
“I think you look good, the nerdy look is good for you.”
“Yeah because plaid is so my color” she said with a sarcastic smile.
“Hey what are you doing later tonight, around 7?” he asked
“Considering I have no where to go, nothing.”
“Are you up for a little ice time?”
“Of course, always” she said. You could hear the excitement in her voice.
“Great! I’ll pick you up around 7.” He was smiling.
She nodded, smiled and got up to put her plate in the sink. He got up behind her and leaned over her shoulder to put his plate in too. His left hand was on the small of her back and it sent chills up her spine. He smiled and headed for the door.
“7 o’clock...don’t forget” he said before he shut the door behind him.
“How could I” she said to herself. “What am I going to do till 7?”
She decided that she would lie down for a bit. She didn’t know how tired she was until she hit the couch. His words- ‘7 o’clock don’t forget’ filled her head. She didn’t know it until she woke up 4 hours later but she had fallen asleep with a smile on her face.
